Prez Mahama Pledges Transformative Era for Volta Region

President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to usher in a transformative era for the Volta Region, prioritizing development across key sectors and correcting years of neglect. During his Thank You Tour in Ho, the President expressed his gratitude to the region for its unwavering loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mahama acknowledged the region’s infrastructure deficits, particularly the deplorable state of roads, and pledged to reengineer critical road networks, including the Ho-Denu Road and the Eastern Corridor Road. He emphasized the importance of boosting trade, tourism, and mobility in the region.

To unlock the region’s tourism potential, the President announced plans to revitalize the Ho Airport and promote eco-friendly tourism, highlighting the region’s natural treasures, including its cleanest rivers, unspoiled vegetation, and pristine air.

Agriculture, a lifeline for the region, will also receive a boost, with initiatives to support rice farmers, establish cassava and ginger processing plants, and expand the Volta Palm Initiative. These projects aim to create jobs, reduce dependence on imports, and promote local brands.

Additionally, Mahama addressed the long-standing issues of sea erosion and flooding along the coast, promising to expedite the Sea Defense Project and compensate victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage. He also emphasized the importance of education and healthcare, announcing plans to upgrade the University of Health and Allied Sciences, develop abandoned E-block schools, and transform the Ho Teaching Hospital into a modern teaching hospital.

Throughout his address, President Mahama underscored his respect for tradition and proposed expanding the involvement of traditional rulers in governance, particularly in environmental protection and community-led initiatives.
