The President’s core address to global leaders focused on the empowerment of women, where he reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to the shared goals of the Beijing Conference. Mahama cited concrete steps, including the election of Ghana’s first female Vice President, the achievement of gender parity in school enrollment, and the planned establishment of a women’s development bank. He stressed that Ghana is actively mainstreaming gender by strengthening critical agencies and allocating funds to social programs like the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP).
