ACCRA — President John Dramani Mahama officially commissioned a newly constructed mosque for the Akweteman Muslim community in Accra on Thursday, marking a significant addition to the capital’s religious and social infrastructure.

The ceremony, which drew a large gathering of local residents, served as a formal handover of the place of worship to the community leaders. President Mahama was joined at the event by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, whose presence highlighted the spiritual importance of the project.

A delegation of prominent Muslim clerics and high-ranking political figures also attended the short but colorful ceremony to witness the unveiling of the facility.

Addressing the gathering, the President emphasized that the mosque should serve as more than just a place for daily prayers, urging the community to utilize it as a center for fostering unity, peace, and social cohesion.

He noted that the completion of the project is a testament to the collaborative spirit between the government and religious bodies in promoting national development.

The National Chief Imam led the inaugural prayers, offering intercessions for the Akweteman residents and the nation at large. The event concluded with a call from local leaders for the youth to maintain the facility as a beacon of guidance and communal support for generations to come.
