ACCRA, GHANA – President John Dramani Mahama has called for national celebrations to honor Ghanaian music legend Agya Koo Nimo while he is still alive. The President emphasized that Koo Nimo’s contributions to music are a vital part of the nation’s cultural heritage and folklore.
“This is a man we must honour before he passes because that was a genre of music that has become a part of our musical archive and our folklore,” President Mahama stated. Agya Koo Nimo is widely revered for his pivotal role in preserving and popularizing Palmwine music, a soulful genre that intricately blends traditional Ghanaian rhythms with guitar melodies.
The iconic musician was recently honored at the Millennium Excellence Awards 2025, an event held under the direct instruction of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. This recognition by such a prestigious foundation further underscores the profound impact and cultural significance of Agya Koo Nimo’s work.
