“Our nation is grieving,” Mahama stated, describing the victims as dedicated public servants, intellectuals, and individuals who tirelessly worked for a better Ghana. He shared that he had close personal bonds with many of the deceased, making this a “deep personal loss” for him. The crash claimed the lives of five passengers and three military personnel.

The victims were identified as Squadron Leader Anala, Flying Officer Ampadu, and Sergeant Addo from the Air Force, along with prominent public figures: Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, a respected public servant; Samuel Sarpong, a respected statesman; Samuel Aboague, a promising leader; Dr. Omane Boamah, a dedicated leader; and Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, a passionate advocate for his constituents and a champion of environmental stewardship.

The Ghana Armed Forces has established a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash. Crucially, the flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been retrieved. President Mahama urged Ghanaians to set aside differences and unite in shared sorrow, advising against speculation or political point-scoring during this time of national grief. He called for empathy and strength, stating that this is a time for the “enduring Ghanaian spirit.”

In honor of the deceased, the nation will observe an Evening of Reflections and Memorial on Saturday, August 9, at the State House forecourt.
