President John Dramani Mahama has launched a comprehensive Code of Conduct and Ethics for all political appointees, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and ethical governance. The code outlines key principles and guidelines for appointees to promote a new political culture grounded in transparency, humility, and ethical leadership.
The code requires appointees to serve the public with integrity and impartiality, declare and manage conflicts of interest, and be accountable for the use of public funds. It also prohibits appointees from accepting gifts or favors, holding stakes in companies that deal with the government, and using insider knowledge for personal benefit.
President Mahama emphasized the importance of asset declaration, warning that appointees who fail to meet the deadline will face sanctions, including forfeiting three months’ salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. He stressed that strict compliance with the code will help restore confidence in the political elite and consolidate democracy.
