President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle (Abla Baeta) as the Acting Chief Executive Officer. The announcement was made on January 17, 2025, through a statement by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President.
Hardcastle’s appointment is backed by Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 11(1) of the Petroleum Commission Act, 2011 (Act 821). However, it is subject to the advice of the Commission’s Board and consultation with the Public Services Commission.
As a seasoned legal professional, Hardcastle brings a wealth of experience in energy, corporate, and commercial law. Her expertise in the regulatory landscape of the oil and gas sector, as well as her background in investment, banking, and finance, make her an ideal candidate for the role.
Hardcastle has worked closely with the Government of Ghana, regulatory bodies, and international development partners, contributing significantly to economic development strategies, development assistance, and trade relations.
As the Acting CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Hardcastle is expected to play a crucial role in regulating and managing the utilization of petroleum resources in Ghana. Her appointment is a testament to President Mahama’s commitment to ensuring the effective management of the country’s petroleum resources.
