ACCRA – President John Dramani Mahama has officially accepted a formal invitation to attend the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. The invitation was extended by a high-level delegation dispatched by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Tuesday morning at the Presidency in Accra. The President’s attendance is seen as a crucial mark of respect from the highest office of the land to the revered Asante Kingdom and its traditions.
The delegation, which was led by Amoamanhene Nana Agyenim Boateng I, delivered the personal invitation during a courtesy call on President Mahama. The visit underscores the long-standing and respectful relationship between the Presidency and the Ashanti Monarchy. During the meeting,
President Mahama conveyed his deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Asantehene and the entire Asanteman, describing the loss of the Asantehemaa as a profound moment of sorrow for the nation.
President Mahama reiterated his firm resolve to attend the funeral, assuring the delegation of his presence to pay his final respects to the late Queen Mother.
His commitment signals the importance the government places on cultural and traditional institutions. The funeral is expected to draw a multitude of high-profile dignitaries, both local and international, highlighting the stature of the Asantehemaa and the Ashanti Kingdom on the global stage.
The final funeral rites for Nana Konadu Yiadom III are scheduled to take place from September 15-18, 2025, at the historic Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The late Asantehemaa, who was a formidable figure in the Ashanti Kingdom, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98. Her passing marked the end of an era, and her funeral is anticipated to be a momentous event, celebrating her life and contributions to the Ashanti Kingdom and Ghana as a whole.
