Pope Leo XIV has urged members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See to pursue paths of peace with justice, truth, and hope. In his first address to the diplomatic community, the Pope emphasized the Church’s commitment to serve all humanity and build bridges through its distinctive form of diplomacy rooted in pastoral concern.

The Pope outlined three essential pillars of the Church’s missionary activity and diplomatic engagement: peace, justice, and truth. He described peace as a demanding and active gift that begins in the human heart, justice as upholding the dignity of every human person, and truth as authentic communication and peaceful relations.

Pope Leo XIV called for a renewal of multilateral diplomacy, a decisive halt to the arms race, and greater solidarity with the poor, marginalized, and immigrants. He also emphasized the importance of religious freedom, interreligious dialogue, and speaking truth with charity, even in difficult situations.

“My ministry has begun in the heart of a Jubilee Year, devoted in a particular way to hope. It is a time of conversion and renewal and, above all, an opportunity to leave conflicts behind and embark on a new path, confident that, by working together, each of us in accordance with his or her own sensibilities and responsibilities, can build a world in which everyone can lead an authentically human life in truth, justice and peace. It is my hope that this will be the case everywhere, starting with those places that suffer most grievously, like Ukraine and the Holy Land,” Pope Leo XIV said.

The Pope concluded by renewing the Holy See’s commitment to building a world where all may live with dignity and peace .
