AKWATIA – The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested ten suspects and confiscated nine weapons, including eight pump-action guns, in a series of security operations ahead of the Akwatia Election Rerun. The police operations are part of a broader effort to prevent the unlawful possession and use of weapons during the electoral process.

One of the arrests occurred on August 22, 2025, near St. Dominic Hospital, where police stopped a vehicle driven by Bernard Kumi Ofosu. A search of the vehicle yielded a Tulpar double-barrel pump-action gun and six live cartridges. Ofosu, who had a valid license for the firearm, is in custody while police verify the exhibits.

In a separate incident at the Akwatia Y-Junction, police apprehended Joshua Amenuku after finding 15 live BB cartridges on his person. A subsequent search of his home led to the discovery of an ADLER TULPA pump-action gun and five additional live cartridges.
Later that same evening, at the Boadua Livingstone snap check, a Toyota Hilux was intercepted, and suspects Enoch Asiedu and Chinese national Lu Youyan were arrested after four live cartridges were found. The men told police the ammunition belonged to their employer, a man identified as Mohammed. Police are searching for Mohammed, while Asiedu and Youyan remain in custody.

On August 23, 2025, police at the Boadua Livingstone Junction snap check arrested Pieterson Joseph after a search of his vehicle uncovered an ADLER TULPAR pump-action gun and 46 cartridges. Joseph admitted ownership of the firearm.
In another incident on the same day, police at the Staff Village Boadua snap check stopped a Toyota Tundra. The search of the vehicle revealed three pump-action guns. One suspect, Stephen Nkansah, who claimed ownership of two of the guns, was arrested and is assisting with investigations. He stated the third gun belonged to his chief.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command stated that these operations will be intensified to ensure law, order, and security before, during, and after the Akwatia By-Election.
