The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters has arrested twelve suspects in a major operation near Nsakye, Nsawam, in the Eastern Region, for the illegal possession and transportation of 598 cartons of BB cartridges. The arrests were made on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, following a successful intelligence-led operation as the suspects were caught loading the ammunition into a DAF articulated truck with registration number EN 792-19.
Among those arrested at the scene were the truck’s driver, Emmanuel Tsornyake, alongside Ofori Jumbo, Paul Darko, Charles Laryea, Theophilus Laryea, George Teye, Noah Tretsu, Eric Danquah, and Billy Gamati, all suspected to be involved in the transportation logistics. Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects had attempted to conceal the illegal cargo by packing 317 cartons of live cartridges amongst 281 empty cartons within a specially designed compartment in the truck trailer to evade detection. The operation team acted immediately upon confirming intelligence that the vehicle was being used to move ammunition originating from a farm location.
Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of three more individuals: Ebenezer Okyere, who implicated Samuel Kwadjo Baffoe as the owner of the significant cache of ammunition. Baffoe was later arrested at Amasaman, where he identified one Gloria Bartels as his supplier. He further disclosed that he was supplying the ammunition to two Nigerian nationals, named Tony and Chika, for subsequent export to Nigeria. All twelve suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations and are scheduled to be brought before the court soon.
