Accra, Ghana – Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) on Thursday, June 13, 2025, visited the Police Hospital in Accra to commend staff for their exceptional service during the recent strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). The visit acknowledged the hospital’s effective management of a significant surge in patient numbers seeking medical attention.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Otu Nyarko, the hospital’s Medical Director, informed the IGP and his team that the past week saw a more than 300% increase in patient visits. Similar increases were reported at the Police Hospital in Kumasi and other police clinics nationwide. Dr. Nyarko noted that despite the pressure, contingency measures were implemented, including recalling doctors on leave, to ensure no patient was turned away.
IGP Yohuno praised Dr. Nyarko and his team for their dedication and invaluable service during the critical period. He urged all officers and civilian staff to continue their hard work in saving lives and ensuring every patient receives necessary medical attention.
He further remarked that the recent commissioning of the Police Hospital in Kumasi was timely and assured the Police Administration’s continued support to improve service delivery at all police medical facilities.
