The Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade, Industry, and Tourism has paid a working visit to Sunda Ghana Limited to gain insight into the company’s operations and challenges. The visit aimed to inform the Committee on how best the Government can support local manufacturing companies like Sunda Ghana Limited.
During the visit, the Managing Director of Sunda Ghana Limited, Mr. Wei Yea, highlighted the company’s operational challenges, including the smuggling of low-quality products, particularly diapers, which led to the uninstallation of two operational lines and the layoff of approximately 350 employees. Mr. Wei Yea appealed to the Committee to develop policies to combat these illegal activities and support local manufacturing companies.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Alexander Roosevelt Hottordzie, commended the management of Sunda Ghana Limited for their insightful presentation and acknowledged the company’s significant role in Ghana’s economy, particularly in job creation. He emphasized that protecting and supporting the expansion of the company’s operations would enhance its production capacity, leading to more job creation, aligning with the President’s 24-hour economy policy aimed at boosting industrial productivity and economic growth.
