Parliament has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, authorizing the government to spend GHC293 billion from the Consolidated Fund and other public funds for the 2025 financial year. This development grants the government the backing to implement its budgetary plans for the year.
The bill outlines the government’s estimated expenditure for the year, with GHC68 billion earmarked for wages and salaries and GHC13 billion allocated for the payment of arrears. First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor announced the approval, declaring, “Hon Members, the Appropriation 2025 is now read the third time and accordingly passed.”
This approval sets the stage for funding sectors, including:
- Education: Allocation of funds to improve educational infrastructure and resources.
- Health: Provision of funds to enhance healthcare services and facilities.
- Infrastructure: Allocation of funds for development and maintenance of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
- Social Services: Funding for social welfare programs and initiatives.
With this passage, the government can now move forward with implementing its budgetary plans.
