Accra, Ghana – The outgoing United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Evelyn Palmer, has praised Ghana’s democracy, stability, warmth, and entrepreneurialism in an op-ed written before her departure. After a three-year tour in Ghana, Ambassador Palmer concluded her assignment, leaving behind a legacy of strengthened US-Ghana relations.
In her farewell message, Ambassador Palmer commended Ghana’s tolerance between faiths, ethnic groups, and political rivals, citing the National Chief Imam’s 50-year leadership in promoting tolerance. She also lauded Ghanaian civil society organizations, academics, and national leaders for defending human rights.
The Ambassador highlighted the strong commercial ties between Ghana and the US, with over 100 US companies operating in Ghana, and praised President Mahama’s commitment to fighting corruption and improving the business climate. She expressed pride in the US’s long-standing partnership with Ghana, including investments in infrastructure development, such as the Akosombo Dam. Deputy Chief of Mission Rolf Olson has taken over as Chargé d’Affaires.
