The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has honored the inaugural Otumfuo Art Awards at the Manhyia Palace on May 23, 2025. The event, a collaborative effort between the Manhyia Palace Museum and UNESCO, celebrated Ghana’s rich artistic legacy under the theme “A Decade of Art: A Legacy of Excellence.”
Several notable artists and organizations were recognized for their contributions to Ghana’s artistic heritage, including Nana Opoku Amponsah Dwumfuor, Melanie Kasiise, and the Sirigu Women’s Organisation for Pottery and Art (SWOPA). Other awardees included renowned painter Kwame Akoto, folklorist Peggy Appiah, sculptor Francis Kwatei Nee-Owoo, and broadcaster Frances Ademola.
The event was attended by UNESCO’s Representative in Ghana, Mr. Edmond Moukala, and celebrated artist Professor Ablade Glover. The Asantehene’s efforts in promoting Ghana’s cultural legacy globally were on full display at the event.
