Organized Labour is to embark on massive demonstration on February 13, 2024, if government doesn’t withdraw the VAT on electricity consumption. The decision was taken at an Organized Labour meeting Friday, February 2, 2024.

The TUC Secretary General, Dr Yaw Baah, who spoke on behalf of Organized Labour, said since their January 31, 2024, deadline, they had not received any formal response from government.

Organized Labour has therefore asked government to withdraw the circular directing VAT on electricity consumption..

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance has noted the concerns of Organised Labour on the implementation of VAT on the consumption of electricity by residential customers. And promised to hold what it terms an extensive dialogue with Organised Labour and other key stakeholders in the coming weeks, to ensure stakeholder buy-in.
