The Nyansapo Highlife Band stole the show at this year’s Ghanafest, leaving the crowd utterly mesmerized by their captivating blend of highlife, reggae, and Afro beats. Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, making them the standout entertainers of the festival.
They paid homage to some legendary Ghanaian and other artists during their performances. The repertoire included music from iconic figures like:
- Osibisa: Known for their fusion of African rhythms, jazz, and rock, Osibisa has left an indelible mark on the music scene.
- Hugh Masekela: The South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, and composer brought his soulful melodies and powerful messages to audiences worldwide.
- C.K. Mann: A highlife legend, C.K. Mann’s infectious rhythms and heartfelt lyrics continue to resonate with fans.
- Amakye Dede: The “Iron Boy” of highlife music, Amakye Dede’s soul-stirring vocals have touched hearts for decades.
- Lucky Dube: Although Lucky Dube was originally from South Africa, his reggae music transcended borders and inspired listeners everywhere.
Okuapeman’s Royal Court Triumphs Again: The Okuapeman Fekuw has secured the coveted Title of Best Cultural Group Procession at Chicago’s Ghanafest for two consecutive years. Their unwavering commitment to preserving and celebrating Ghanaian culture shines brightly! Not to be outdone this year, the Okuapeman’s royal court delivered another stellar performance. During their royal court’s procession, they clinched victory as the best-dressed group and the most disciplined. Their elegance and poise were unmatched.
They started the procession with captivating Fontonfrom Dance. Members took turns showcasing their Fontonfrom dancing skills. The rhythmic beats echoed through the festival grounds, setting the tone for a spectacular procession.
It’s inspiring to witness former leaders of the organization gracefully step aside, allowing the next generation to shine. What truly stood out was the youth within their royal court. Their vibrant energy and skillful performances outshone all others. By involving the youth, the Okuapeman Fekuw ensured that the next generation had their chance to celebrate and participate in Ghanaian culture.
