The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is enveloped in mourning following the death of one of its cherished veteran actresses, Stella Ikwuegbu. The actress succumbed to leg cancer on Sunday, June 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and contributions to the cinematic world.
Stella Ikwuegbu’s passing was confirmed by movie producer Stanley Nwoko, known professionally as Stanley Ontop, through a heartfelt announcement on his Instagram page. “The veteran actress left this world today after battling with leg cancer. Rest well, Madam Stella. Nollywood again. It’s well,” read the post that has since drawn numerous tributes from fans and colleagues alike.
Her death occurs just days after the industry lost another icon, Dayo Adewunmi, also known as Sule Suebebe, marking a somber period for the Nigerian entertainment community.
Stella Ikwuegbu’s illustrious career began in the 1990s and saw her grace the screen in several popular films including ‘Spoiler,’ ‘Ukwa,’ ‘Sound of Love,’ ‘Holy Man,’ ‘Two Hearts,’ ‘Heart of Stone,’ and ‘Madam Koikoi.’ Her talent extended beyond acting as she was also a successful entrepreneur with her restaurant venture, ‘The Film Bar,’ which she launched on August 1.
