New Leadership Takes the Helm at Electricity Company of Ghana

Wednesday, July 17, 2024, marked a significant milestone for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as a new Board Chairman and member were sworn into office. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu and Majority Leader, took the reins as Board Chairman, while Hon. Habib Iddrissu, Member of Parliament for Tolon and Deputy Majority Chief Whip, joined the Board.

Outgoing Minister of Energy, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, aka NAPO presided over the swearing-in ceremony and expressed his confidence in the new leadership. “I charge the new Board Chairman to work assiduously to make ECG a company worth its salt in the economic growth of our country,” he said.

Opoku Prempeh noted that Afenyo-Markin brings a wealth of leadership experience to the table and is well-equipped to steer the affairs of the company. He expressed his optimism that the new Board will work tirelessly to ensure the ECG plays a vital role in Ghana’s economic development.

As the new Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin pledged to work closely with the Board, management, and staff to address the challenges facing the ECG. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving the company’s goals and ensuring the reliable supply of electricity to Ghanaians.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter for the ECG, and all eyes are on the new leadership to drive the company forward and make a meaningful impact on Ghana’s economy.
