In a historic address to Parliament, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson congratulated his re-elected colleagues and welcomed new members. He also extended goodwill to outgoing members, wishing them well in their future endeavors. Dr. Forson praised the people of Ghana for their decisive decision in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, which saw the election of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the next president.
The NDC’s impressive performance, snagging over 50 parliamentary seats from the ruling NPP, was a testament to the party’s hard work and dedication. Dr. Forson acknowledged the unprecedented number of NDC Members of Parliament-elect, attributing it to their tireless efforts. He proudly announced that the NDC had successfully reduced the NPP’s majority, proving that “nkokor nkiti nkiti” is indeed possible.
Dr. Forson characterized the election outcome as a revolution, a people’s revolt against a government perceived as obstinate, insensitive, and dismissive of public opinion. He emphasized that Ghanaians had sent a clear message: they will not be taken for granted, and those in government will be held accountable for their actions.
As the NDC prepares to take the reins of government, Dr. Forson cautioned his party against emulating the outgoing NPP government’s behavior. He urged the incoming government to champion people-centered policies, guided by the principles of integrity, probity, and accountability. The time has come, Dr. Forson stressed, for the NDC to do right by the people of Ghana and prioritize their needs above those of the political class and their cronies.
