Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, has expressed his discontent with President Nana Akufo-Addo’s selection of recipients for the recent National State Awards. Speaking during the 43rd-anniversary celebration of the 31st December Revolution, Asiedu Nketiah questioned the credibility of the awards, sparking a heated debate about the selection process.
Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that state awards should be reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the country, particularly those who have fought for a good cause. He criticized the 2024 National Honours and Awards ceremony, held on Monday, citing a lack of transparency and accountability in the selection process.
To address these concerns, Asiedu Nketiah proposed the establishment of a proper committee, backed by law, to determine future winners of state awards. This, he believes, would prevent personal interests or biases, such as those of President Akufo-Addo, from influencing the selection process.
Asiedu Nketiah’s comments highlight the need for a more rigorous and merit-based selection process for national honors and awards, ensuring that these prestigious recognitions are reserved for those who truly deserve them.
