Professor Ransford Gyampo, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, has questioned President John Dramani Mahama’s intentions regarding the National Cathedral project. The project, initiated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, has been a subject of controversy due to its funding and prioritization.

In an open letter, Prof Gyampo challenged the necessity of continuing the project, emphasizing that President Mahama was not elected to fulfill his predecessor’s personal pledges. He suggested that resources should be allocated to more pressing national needs, given Ghana’s economic challenges.

President Mahama has expressed concerns over the project’s cost and funding sources, stating that state funds will not be used. Instead, he proposed raising funds through a consensus among Christians.

The National Cathedral project’s future remains uncertain, with many calling for its reassessment.
