Story: Benjamin Makafui Attipoe, Accra
The National Chairman of the Zongo Caucus Working Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government to concede that their actions and inactions as leaders have landed the country in the on-going ‘Dumsor’ crisis. According to him, the President must acknowledge this monumental failure before handing over power to the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.
In a Facebook post on the country’s current energy crisis situation and its related issues, Alhaji Sinare noted that the current power outages popularly known as the ‘Dumsor’ crisis, which has persisted for several years, is severely impacting Ghanaian businesses, households, and the economy as a whole.
The former Ambassador emphasized that the frequent power outages have led to loss of productivity, damaged equipment and widespread frustration among the population.
Speaking to the media in Accra, the former Ayawaso Central lawmaker criticized the current government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for their inaction on the issue and poor handling of the deepening crisis. He suggested that the leadership of the country is downplaying the crisis in order to use it against the incoming government of President John Dramani Mahama.
Alhaji Sinare noted that there is desperation among Ghanaians over the issue and that the country has become a nation tired of government inaction. ‘The ‘Dumsor’ situation has reached a crisis point, and it is imperative that the government takes drastic measures to address it before leaving office on January 7, 2025′ , he stated.
‘The failure to provide a reliable and sustainable energy supply to Ghanaians is a betrayal of the trust placed in them by the Ghanaian people. It is time for them not only to take full responsibility but also tackle thevcurrent crisis once and for all’ , Alhaji Sinare added.
According to Alhaji Sinare, the move would demonstrate seriousness on the part of government and the commitment to finding a lasting solution rather than merely continuing to manage the situation inadequately as has been the case for sometime now.
As the people of Ghana continue to suffer under the burden of ‘Dumsor’ and the economic challenges facing the country, Alhaji Sinare emphasized the need for the outgoing government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to take responsibility for the situation as well as their actions and inactions that have plunged the country into this energy quagmire.
