ACCRA, Ghana – The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially transferred 17 gold bars, with an estimated value of $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The gold was confiscated by NACOC officers at the Paga Border Post in the Upper East Region from two Burkinabe nationals. These individuals were allegedly attempting to smuggle the gold out of Ghana and have since been charged with gold offenses related to transportation and dealing.

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, assured GoldBod of the Ministry’s ongoing support in their efforts to manage Ghana’s gold resources. Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, thanked the Director-General of NACOC for the successful handover and called for continued cooperation among various security agencies.

The handover ceremony was attended by key officials, including Mrs. Doreen Annan, Chief Director of the Ministry; Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, Director General of NACOC; and other senior representatives from both NACOC and GoldBod.
