The NDC Minority Caucus, led by Minority Leader Ato Forson, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180). The amendments, laid in Parliament by the Transport Minister on June 14, 2024, aim to update the regulations but have been met with public outcry due to provisions granting certain public officials, including Ministers and MPs, privileges such as using sirens and exceeding speed limits without liability.
The Minority Caucus stands with the Ghanaian public in rejecting these provisions and has instructed its members to oppose the amendment at the committee level and vote against it on the floor. The government is urged to focus on addressing pressing issues like high cost of living, food inflation, unemployment, and high fuel costs.
Minority Leader Ato Forson demands that the Transport Minister immediately withdraw the controversial Legislative Instrument before it becomes law, emphasizing that the NDC Minority Caucus will not support any regulation that perpetuates inequality and undermines the rule of law. The opposition’s firm stance reflects their commitment to advocating for the rights and interests of the Ghanaian people.
