The Ministry of Health has commemorated World Hand Hygiene Day, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to infection prevention and control through proper hand hygiene practices. This year’s theme was “It may be gloves, It’s always hand hygiene.”
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, emphasized the importance of consistent hand hygiene practices in healthcare settings and beyond. He highlighted progress made under the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) framework and announced plans to require all regional and teaching hospitals to monitor hand hygiene compliance by 2026.
The Minister also stressed the need for hand hygiene education to extend beyond hospitals into homes, schools, and communities, creating a culture where everyone plays a role in promoting hand hygiene.
