Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has made a commitment to tackle the long-standing issue of payment delays faced by caterers under the government’s school feeding program. This assurance comes at a critical time, as concerns over unpaid arrears and the quality of meals provided to schoolchildren continue to grow.
During her vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, Naa Momo emphasized her determination to address these challenges and ensure the effective implementation of the program. She highlighted the government’s manifesto, which outlines plans to address bottlenecks in school feeding and capitation grants, with the ultimate goal of extending the program to private schools.
Naa Momo acknowledged that while payments for 40 days have been made, 31 days’ worth of payments remain in arrears. She expressed her commitment to resolving this issue, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts and open dialogue with stakeholders to find lasting solutions.
Prioritizing the quality of food provided through the program, Naa Momo affirmed her confidence in President Mahama’s commitment to maintaining the program and upholding high standards. With her strengths in fostering dialogue and achieving sustainable outcomes, Naa Momo is poised to make a positive impact on the school feeding program and the lives of Ghana’s schoolchildren.
