October is Pastor’s Appreciation Month, so assumable when a Pastor’s 50th birthday coincides with the month of October, one would expect a vast celebration befitting the celebrant. Such was the case of Rev. Dr. Nana Yaw Amponsah Antwi on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption Congregation, 741 E 84th St, Chicago, IL 60619.

Cutting the “yummy” birthday cake

A week before the celebration, he had requested that all church members come to church the following Sunday dressed in white. Indeed, on October 9, 2022, almost all the congregants were beautifully clad in all-white. The Presbyters, groups, and church members showed their appreciation by presenting various gifts and tokens to the celebrant. Mrs. Esther Fafa Amponsah, his spouse, elegantly decorated the church’s basement like a hotel banquet hall. Behind the head table was a backdrop of green and rose golden 50th birthday decoration set, beautiful to behold. She also paid glorious tribute to her husband. Almost in tears, she said, “You are a loving father, and I appreciate your love for God.” She thanked Elder Christiana Osei Owusu for her role in planning and participation in the celebrations. His children sang a special song they had composed for the occasion. They noted that their father is loving, caring, and disciplinarian.

Rev. Dr. Nana Yaw Amponsah Antwi was transferred to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption congregation, Chicago, just a little over a year ago. He has shown his ability to preach an authentic Christian message with humility, utmost truthfulness, substantial knowledge, and extraordinary agility.

In today’s society, arrogance, disrespect, intolerance, rapacious desire to control church finances, and clownlike display of wealth by religious leaders and pastors have turned most of the flock away. However, religious gentlemen such as Rev. Dr. Nana Yaw continue to inspire and demonstrate considerable meekness, moderation, assertiveness, respect, and tolerance which are hardly noticed these days.

Some of the congregants we spoke to hold Rev. Dr. Nana Yaw Amponsah Antwi in very high esteem and regard him as one of the best Presbyterian pastors posted to redeem souls in Chicago.

Mrs. Esther Fafa Amponsah gave a glorious and moving vote of thanks.

It was a memorable and joyful evening full of praises and thanksgiving.
