Accra, Ghana – Melcom Group is planning to diversify its operations by venturing into hydroponic farming to ensure a consistent supply of fresh, locally grown vegetables for its numerous stores nationwide. The Group Managing Director, Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani, revealed this during a courtesy call on the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Simon Madjie. Sadhwani emphasized that this move is not merely a business strategy but a commitment to consumer health, environmental sustainability, and reducing the country’s reliance on imported produce.

While acknowledging positive improvements in Ghana’s overall business climate, Mr. Sadhwani also highlighted areas within the nation’s tax system that he believes could benefit from further review and harmonization. This suggestion points to a desire for a more streamlined and predictable fiscal environment for businesses operating in Ghana.

In response, GIPC CEO Mr. Simon Madjie assured Melcom of the Centre’s commitment to engaging with relevant government agencies to address tax policy concerns, aiming to create a more stable and investor-friendly landscape.

Madjie welcomed Melcom’s foray into hydroponics, describing it as a timely initiative, particularly given the incentives available for the agriculture and agro-processing sectors under Ghana’s current investment regime. He lauded the venture as an example of private sector leadership in sustainable development and affirmed GIPC’s support for Melcom’s forward-thinking endeavor.
