The tradition of celebrating birthdays is shared among all people the world over. Indeed, Birthdays symbolize a sign of Life and growth. Therefore, Ghanaians are no exception in celebrating their birthdays, especially the Ghanaian community in Chicago. The whirlwind of excitement and celebrations this time swept the Yorkville Ghanaian Community as the spotlight was beamed on one of the young and new sub-Queenmothers of the Ewe Association of Metropolitan Chicago, Mama Sedudzi I, aka Empress Mawusi Kudjawu. There was also a housewarming party by the host, Minister Mawuse Alormele.
Mama Sedudzi thanked the special guests for supporting her through thick and thin. She was spotted in a charming all-white outfit, radiating elegance and grace. Her infectious smile lit up excitement in the gathering, reflecting her immense joy on her birthday.
Notable amongst the well-wishers from Ghana are Torgbi Agbelom, Chief of Salo (Anlo) in the Volta Region also known as Nana Ofei Asamani I; Efo Etse Agbemebiese, of Nicky Media Productions and TV Gold fame; Seyram Dei, a famous Ghanaian Ewe folk music singer, and Ghana’s upcoming talented Musician, “EveryDay”.
The attendees were Dr. Michael O. Appiagyei, MD, and his beautiful wife, Mrs. Emelia Baasiwah Appiagyei; Togbui Kutame I (Dr. Mark Kutame); Mama Nunyati I (Deborah Ameyedowo); Mama Semekor I (Rita Tawiah); Mrs. Dzifa Hosi; members of the hododui show and others.
Deejay K. B Oppong’s selections for the occasion were impressive, as usual. His selections of Funk, Hip Life, Old School, and the like kept the crowd dancing all evening long.
Mrs. Rosemary Amegashie Hadzide prayed for the occasion’s success and invited the Lord’s blessings and protection for the birthday celebrant and her host.
The former President of the Ghana National Council, Paa Kwasi Sam, presented Mama Sedudzi with a beautiful canvas portrait of Mama in full regalia.
