The Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has referred three of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees to the Appointments Committee for vetting and approval. The nominees include Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-Designate, John Jinapor as Energy Minister-Designate, and Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Justice Minister-Designate.
These appointments were announced on January 9, 2025, and Speaker Bagbin assured Parliament that the nominees would undergo a thorough vetting process. “I will accordingly refer the nominees to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the House,” he said.
The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, cautioned the nominees to be well-prepared for their vetting, emphasizing that the process would be rigorous. “We want to caution your nominees to come prepared. It is not going to be business as usual,” he warned.
The Appointments Committee will soon schedule the vetting sessions to review the nominees’ qualifications and suitability for their roles. This development marks a crucial step in the formation of President Mahama’s cabinet, and the outcome of the vetting process will be eagerly awaited.
