President John Dramani Mahama held a meeting with the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, led by Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi. The meeting provided an opportunity for Mahama to congratulate Pope Leo XIV on his election and express hope that he would follow in the footsteps of Pope Francis, who had a special place in his heart for Africa.
The Bishops’ Conference had visited to congratulate Mahama on his victory in the December 7th elections. During the meeting, Mahama and the Bishops discussed critical national issues, including the fight against illegal mining, education reform, and governance and electoral reforms. Mahama appreciated the Conference’s strong stance against the devastation caused by galamsey and their call for decisive action.
President Mahama thanked the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for its dedication to the development and well-being of the country. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working together with the Conference to address national challenges and build a better Ghana. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and religious leaders in promoting the country’s development and well-being.
