President John Dramani Mahama has signed into law bills abolishing three taxes. The Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), Betting Tax, and Emissions Tax are now history, fulfilling a campaign promise by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The E-Levy, introduced in 2022, had imposed a charge on electronic transactions, sparking criticism for its impact on citizens and businesses. The Betting Tax had faced opposition from the gaming industry.

President Mahama said this move honors a commitment made to the people of Ghana, aligning with his pledge to eliminate these taxes within his first 120 days in office. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson had said these tax removals would bring relief to Ghanaians, stating it would bring “happiness” to the people.
