Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has issued a call to action to American businesses and investors, highlighting Ghana’s strategic location and abundant natural resources as key factors for fostering mutually beneficial economic partnerships. Speaking at the 35th Anniversary Thanksgiving Dinner and Awards Night of the American Chamber of Commerce Ghana, Kufuor emphasized Ghana’s potential for building a sustainable economy.

Ghana’s unique geography, situated at the intersection of the equator and the meridian, makes it an attractive hub for international trade and commerce. “Within six hours, you can reach major cities in New York, and seven hours to the Middle East,” Kufuor pointed out, underscoring the country’s connectivity advantages.

To boost global competitiveness, Kufuor advised Ghanaian businesses to focus on value addition in their exports. This strategic move will not only enhance their market appeal but also contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.

The former president’s appeal comes at a time when Ghana is working to recover from economic challenges, including a surge in public debt and inflation ¹. However, with the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Credit Facility and the World Bank’s Development Policy Operations supporting the government’s program, Ghana is poised for growth.

In fact, Ghana’s GDP surged by 5.9% in the first half of 2024, driven by growth in the industry sector, particularly oil and gas ¹. The country’s resilience and potential for growth make it an attractive investment destination for American businesses.

As Kufuor emphasized, Ghana offers immense potential for building a sustainable economy, and partnering with American businesses could be a game-changer for the country’s economic advancement.
