The Minister for Sports and Recreation Designate, Kofi Adams, has vowed to elevate the status of lesser-known sports in the country. During his vetting, Adams emphasized a strategic shift in line with the President’s vision to separate youth initiatives from sports management, aiming for a more streamlined and effective governance approach.

This declaration marks a substantial policy transformation, aiming to redistribute attention and resources to sports that have traditionally been overshadowed by football’s massive popularity. Adams stated, “The President in his manifesto saw the need to decouple youth from sports. We will also focus more on other sports known as the lesser-known sports.”

The anticipated policy changes are expected to bring much-needed resources and support to sports like athletics, boxing, table tennis, hockey, swimming, and Scrabble. These sports have immense potential to produce remarkable talent and achievements on national and international fronts.

By investing in these areas, Ghana aims to cultivate a diverse range of athletic prowess and create pathways for athletes to shine on larger platforms. This initiative aligns with the government’s larger objectives of youth empowerment and national pride.

With proper funding, training, and exposure, Ghanaian athletes could compete effectively on continental and global stages, showcasing the country’s multifaceted talent. As the new administration prepares to implement these strategies, the hopes of many sports enthusiasts and aspiring athletes hinge on the successful execution of this vision.
