Japan’s National Diet Representatives Meet with Ghana’s Health Minister to Discuss Immunization Efforts

Accra, Ghana – A delegation from Japan’s National Diet paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Health in Accra, seeking insights into the collaboration between Gavi and Ghana in the immunization sector.

Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, stood in for Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, highlighting Japan’s commitment to global immunization efforts. He noted that Japan pledged $9.3 million to Gavi in 2011 and maintained this support until 2014.

Acquah emphasized that Japan’s aid extended beyond immunization, benefiting children and vulnerable populations. He listed equipment and infrastructure provided to Ghana, including refrigerated cargo trucks, medical scanners, and ambulances.

Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, acknowledged Gavi’s crucial role in advancing immunization efforts worldwide, particularly in low-income countries. He stated that Ghana has greatly benefited from this support and emphasized the importance of the partnership between Japan and Ghana in pursuing Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to ensuring no one is left behind in accessing healthcare services.
