In a significant development for air travel connectivity, ITA Airways, a prominent European carrier, has received final approvals from the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority to commence commercial flight operations to Accra, Ghana.
The airline is poised to inaugurate a four times weekly direct flight route from Rome, Italy to Accra, with detailed flight schedules expected to be unveiled imminently.
Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, conveyed her enthusiasm on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff, welcoming the addition of ITA Airways to the diverse array of airlines operating at Kotoka International Airport. “We look forward to ITA Airways’ inaugural flight on June 6, 2024, just in time for the summer peak travel season,” she remarked.
Assuring seamless operations, Mrs. Opare emphasized GACL’s commitment to collaborating with all airport agencies and ITA Airways to ensure passengers enjoy a hassle-free travel experience through Kotoka International Airport.
The entry of ITA Airways into the Ghanaian Aviation Industry is anticipated to enhance flight options and bolster connectivity for passengers, contributing to the growth of air travel in the region.
With this development, ITA Airways becomes the 24thinternational airline to serve Accra, joining a prestigious roster of carriers including British Airways, Emirates Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines, among others.
Kotoka International Airport currently serves as a hub for 23 international airlines, with additional regional flights operated by Passion Air, Africa World Airlines, and Gian Air catering to domestic and charter flight needs.
The introduction of ITA Airways flights underscores Accra’s status as a key aviation hub in the West African region, offering travelers enhanced accessibility and convenience in air travel.
