Accra, Ghana – On July 5, 2024, the Institute for African Women in Law (IAWL) will host a high-level convening at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel to culminate its Pan-African Gender Equality in Law Campaign (GELC). The event, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Justice and the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), aims to address gender inequality in the legal profession.
The convening will feature Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo as the special guest of honor, alongside Professor Margaret Satterthwaite, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers. Esteemed members of the Ghana Bar Association, the Diplomatic Corps, and international organizations will also attend.
The event will provide a platform for discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaborations to drive meaningful change. Participants will address critical issues affecting women in the legal profession, share best practices, and identify solutions to promote gender equality and women’s leadership in law.
IAWL’s Executive Director, J. Jarpa Dawuni, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of collective efforts to advance gender equality in law and create a more inclusive legal profession. The convening promises to be a monumental step towards achieving this goal.
