Founder and leader of the non partisan group The People’s Project, Kwame Obeng Asare popular known as A Plus has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) that in their cleaning exercise to be carried on the new voters register, they [EC] should not remove names that do not sound Ghanaian to the real owners of Ghana.
A Plus comments comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) has inaugurated a voter registration adjudication committee to help expunge the names of multiple registrants from the voter register.
The 16-member multi-stakeholder committee which was inaugurated by the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa, in Accra Wednesday [August 5, 2020], will be required to manually determine the eligibility of persons who have been flagged for multiple registration through the de-duplication process to be on the voter roll.
One of the basis on which the EC was compiling a new voter register for the 2020 elections was because they claim the 2016 voters register was bloated but it seems the compiling of the new register which ends together has a high number of registrants than it had in the 2016 voters register.
Now the EC believes the high number of registrants in the 2020 register was because there were multiple registrations of some registrants.
A Plus in his post said the EC which resisted calls to clean the existingg 2016 register and went ahead to compiling a new one with over 200 million dollars say it is going to clean the new one they are compiling.
A Plus then caution the EC not to remove names which do not sound Ghanaian to please the real owners of Ghana.
Here is what A Plus had to say in response to EC inaugurating a 16 member to do the cleaning up exercise on the new register ….
“The EC which resisted calls to clean the existing register and went ahead to compiling a new one with over 200 million dollars say it is going to clean the new one they are compiling. I hope this “cleaning” is not going to be used by the real owners of Ghana to remove names that don’t sound Ghanaian to them.”
