Korle Bu, Accra, Ghana — The Alumni Association of the Nurses and Midwives Training College (NMTC) at Korle Bu celebrated a significant milestone with its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday. Under the capable leadership of President Marian Pimpong, the event successfully brought together both executives and alumni.

President Pimpong expressed sincere gratitude to all attendees for their unwavering support. “Your presence has been instrumental in our achievements,” she emphasized. The AGM highlighted the steadfast commitment of NMTC Korle Bu’s alumni to fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and advancing the nursing and midwifery profession in Ghana.

The executive team received well-deserved accolades for their exceptional contributions. Their meticulous planning ensured the seamless execution of this maiden AGM. President Pimpong added, “Their tireless efforts merit our deepest appreciation.”

Mrs. Alice Darkoa Asare Allotey, who chaired the occasion, received special recognition. Despite the short notice, her acceptance and active participation enriched the proceedings. Mrs. Addison’s opening prayer also set a positive tone for the gathering.

As the AGM concluded, President Pimpong expressed optimism about the future. “Our alumni network is a powerful force for positive change,” she declared. “Together, we will uphold NMTC Korle Bu’s legacy and create a lasting impact.”

Valued alumna Alice D. Asare Allotey extended her heartfelt appreciation to the executives. She remarked, “Ayekoo, Madam President, and the entire executive team, for your outstanding work. We all look splendid.” Alice also encouraged everyone to prioritize attending the monthly meetings as agreed.

The alumni association has launched an initiative to establish a modern resource center and a state-of-the-art skills lab to advance learning and competence for the college. With fundraising already underway, this project aims to elevate the learning experience and adequately prepare students. All alumni are encouraged to contribute to this worthy cause.

During open group discussions, strategies were explored to increase attendance at meetings. The Alma Mater concluded that:

  • The school maintains records of various groups, each with designated leaders (SRC) who could reach out to members.
  • Additional means discussed include contacting nursing directors and the Polyclinics to announce alumni meetings.
  • Letter to the DNS was also considered.

Members are urged to mark their calendars for the  August 1, 2024 meeting.
