The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has issued a clear directive to the country’s medical leadership, urging them to intensify the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through a renewed focus on innovation, teamwork, and accountability. The Minister delivered his charge as the Guest of Honour at the 23rd Annual General and Scientific Conference of the Medical Superintendents Group in Kwahu.
Addressing the conference, themed “Leading the Fight Against NCDs: The Role of the Medical Superintendent in Integrated Care,” Mr. Akandoh commended health professionals for their dedication despite difficult working conditions. He stressed that Ghana’s success in combating NCDs hinges on discipline, efficiency, and a collective commitment to quality care, cautioning medical leaders against “sitting on the fence” and urging them to actively lead reforms in service delivery.
Looking ahead, the Minister announced plans to establish a dedicated fund aimed at strengthening health sector financing. This initiative is intended to bolster the country’s capacity to respond to both NCDs and other emerging national health challenges.
