The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding health infrastructure and improving service delivery during a working tour of the Savannah Region. The tour focused on reviving stalled construction projects, securing land for new facilities, and engaging with both regional stakeholders and traditional leaders.

In Damongo, the Regional Capital, the Minister assured stakeholders that construction on the long-awaited Regional Hospital project will resume in early January. This assurance followed the allocation of 50 acres of land for the project by the traditional authorities, who later conferred the honorary title of “Chief of Health” on Mr. Akandoh.

During a meeting with the Regional Coordinating Council, he discussed strategies to retain medical officers and strengthen healthcare delivery in the region. The Minister also addressed students at the Damongo Nursing and Midwifery College, promising that their training allowances would be paid by the end of the month.

The commitment to expansion was reinforced in Bole, where the Minister announced plans for the construction of a new District Hospital to begin next year, after securing a pledge of 20 acres of land from the Bolewura. While inspecting the existing Bole Hospital, he pledged immediate support to address its challenges as plans for the new facility advance.

Minister Akandoh’s final stop was Salaga, where he inspected the Salaga Hospital project, which has been abandoned since 2017. He assured the community that construction on the stalled facility would be revived as part of the government’s renewed commitment to completing all uncompleted health projects nationwide.
