The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has resumed operations at its outpatient renal dialysis unit, following a three-week closure due to a shortage of essential consumables. The unit’s reopening has brought relief to patients who rely on the critical service.

According to Baffour Kojo Ahenkra, President of the Renal Patient Association, the closure was primarily caused by challenges in accessing affordable dialysis services. Ahenkra spoke to the media, expressing hope that the unit’s reopening marks a long-term solution.

“The past three weeks have been incredibly difficult for our members,” Ahenkra said. “We are grateful that the hospital has addressed the shortage and reopened the unit. We hope this positive development can be maintained for a long time, ensuring uninterrupted care for those who need it most.”

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s renal dialysis unit provides life-saving treatment to patients with kidney failure. Its closure had left many patients seeking alternative, often costly, options.

Hospital officials have not commented on the measures taken to address the consumables shortage, but patients and families are breathing a sigh of relief as the unit resumes operations.
