Accra, Ghana- The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has sounded a warning bell, calling on the government to immediately withdraw the newly introduced 5% Excise Tax on plastic manufacturing companies. According to GUTA, the additional tax burden would push these companies to the brink of collapse, exacerbating the already challenging business environment.
In a statement, GUTA highlighted the struggles of the business community, citing currency fluctuations, rising utility tariffs, and numerous taxes. The association emphasized that the industry cannot absorb any further costs, and the government must act swiftly to address their concerns.
GUTA’s urgent appeal seeks to prevent the demise of plastic manufacturing companies, which would have far-reaching consequences for the economy and employment. The association’s plea resonates with the plight of businesses operating in a challenging economic landscape, hoping for a swift reversal of the excise tax to ensure their survival.
