President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled the government’s flagship poultry revitalisation programme, Nkoko Nkitinkiti, in Kumasi, aimed at curbing the heavy importation of frozen chicken and creating jobs. The programme will involve distributing three million poultry birds to beneficiaries across the country, providing them with birds, feed, and other supplies to start their poultry businesses.

The initiative is designed to bring poultry production directly to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian, in homes, schools, and communities, transforming subsistence into self-sustaining livelihoods. Under phase one, each beneficiary will receive 50 chicks, feed support, and technical guidance to ensure the survival and sustainability of the project.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme is a key component of the broader Feed Ghana Programme, aimed at guaranteeing food sovereignty and shared prosperity. President Mahama stated that the initiative is another campaign promise fulfilled, addressing the core of Ghana’s national food security and inclusive growth agenda.
