The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for transitioning to the new gold trading license regime from May 21, 2025, to June 21, 2025. This decision follows petitions from stakeholders, allowing holders of licenses issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Corporation (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to continue purchasing and dealing in gold with their existing licenses until the new deadline.

The GoldBod emphasizes that after June 21, 2025, only holders of a GoldBod license will be permitted to purchase, sell, or deal in gold. The use of licenses issued by the defunct PMMC and/or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to deal in gold will be prohibited beyond the new deadline, and any breach will constitute a punishable offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).

In a related development, the GoldBod has announced that the export function of licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has ceased to be valid, effective May 22, 2025. As a result, only GoldBod can export small-scale gold from Ghana. This move aims to streamline the gold trading industry and ensure compliance with the new regulatory framework.

The GoldBod encourages all persons desirous of trading or dealing in gold in Ghana to apply for a license via their website. The license application process is ongoing, and applicants can continue to submit their applications even after the deadline. The GoldBod counts on the cooperation of all stakeholders and the public as it works to optimize national benefits from Ghana’s gold resources.
