The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is set to embark on a significant project, drilling the first oil well in the Voltaian basin. According to reports, the drilling is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of next year.

The announcement was made by Mike Aryeetey, Managing Director of GNPC-EXPLORCO, at the Africa Energy Chamber’s Invest in African Energies: Accra Investor Briefing. Aryeetey highlighted the potential of the Voltaian basin and the corporation’s efforts to explore new oil fields.

However, Aryeetey also pointed out challenges hindering the drilling of new oil wells. He emphasized the need for a reset in petroleum agreements to attract investors. The aim is to create a more favorable environment for investment in the oil and gas sector.

The move is expected to boost Ghana’s oil production and contribute to the country’s economic growth. With the GNPC’s plans to drill in the Voltaian basin, stakeholders are hopeful that the project will bring in new investments and opportunities for the country.
