Portuguese tactician, Mariano Barreto has lost his first match as head coach for Asante Kotoko following the team’s 2-1 defeat to Medeama SC at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The gaffer took charge of the club prior to the start of the second round of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season and before today has seen the Reds stay unbeaten.
In a game serving as a matchday 21 fixture of the League campaign, Asante Kotoko took an early lead in the 13th minute when captain Emmanuel Gyamfi scored with a header after connecting to an inviting cross from Imoro Ibrahim.
Failing to capitalize on the momentum, the home side paid in the 30th minute. Medeama SC striker Prince Opoku Agyemang beat the offside trap before smashing home a good effort to restore parity for his team.
Later in the dying minutes of the first half, midfielder Richard Boadu showed his class when he fired a long-range effort.
The strike took a deflection before totally beating Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Razak Abalora who had moved in the other direction.
With no goals in the second half, Medeama SC has cruised to an important 2-1 comeback win and now find themselves top of the Ghana Premier League table.
