Ghana’s first female Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has embarked on a three-week medical break starting April 7, 2025. This decision follows medical advice from her doctor and comes weeks after she was hospitalized for a sudden illness.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre on March 29, 2025, after falling ill on Friday night. Initially receiving treatment at the medical center, she was later advised to seek further medical attention abroad.

In a statement addressing the public, the Vice President expressed gratitude for the outpouring of goodwill messages during her hospitalization, particularly in her Eid Mubarak message to the Muslim community. She reassured the public of her appreciation for their prayers and support.

The Vice President’s medical break aims to allow her to focus on her health and recovery. The government has not disclosed further details about her condition or the specific country where she will receive treatment.
